ModCloth Stylish Surprise March 2017

Rating: Love It!!!!
Cost: Shoes $10 each; Jewelry $5

I tried my luck at ModCloth's Stylish Surprise when the website announced it last week. It's a total surprise, so you don't know what you'll get. You choose your size and order dresses, clothing, shoes, jewelry, or home items. I ordered 2 pairs of shoes in my size and one jewelry item. The jewelry is usually sold out when I find out about Stylish Surprise, so I decided to try one jewelry item. The Stylish Surprise is now sold out, but ModCloth does the sale a couple times a year, so keep on the lookout for them!

My order arrived today and it's always fun opening the box to see what I received! I couldn't wait to see everything! The box was pretty large, so I thought I'd be getting boots. I always get nervous about boots that I haven't tried on, because I have very thin calves and they are always large on my legs, but for $10 a pair I always take a chance at Stylish Surprise. When I opened the box I saw two shoe boxes that I wasn't familiar with. One was the brand My Delicious Shoes and the other was NY LA Premium.

I opened up the My Delicious Shoes box first. They are a tan ankle boot that zips up the side. They are neutral and will go with a lot and they fit me, so I was happy with these. They don't feel like a quality shoe, so I'm sure they won't last for years, but I will wear them as long as they don't hurt my feet. I tried to google what these boots cost, but couldn't find the same one. From what I found it looks like the average cost for this brand for ankle boots was around $30, so $10 for these was a deal. They're simple and classic and I don't have a simple tan ankle boot, so I'm happy with these. I like the slightly rounded toe and heel height and color!

I was very excited to see what the NY LA shoes were. It said they're designed and made in the US on the box, so I was happy about that. I was hoping they'd be something I would wear. The box said the style was Dance Loaf in Black and it also had a sticker stating leather upper and rubber sole, so I was excited to see what they were. When I opened them up I knew my order was worth it! They are simple black loafers with very soft leather. I will wear these a lot because they will go with everything! In fact, these will probably be my go to black flat shoes for the office. I love them! They are very comfortable too! And the rubber sole makes them not slippery. I love them! I found the same style in a different color on Amazon with one size left for $41, and it looked like this brand of shoes retailed around $70, so these were a good deal! I was so happy to get plain black loafers and they're so comfy, so I'm extremely happy! Very simple and classic! Definitely worth taking a chance!

I also tried a jewelry piece this time and I'm happy I did! I saw the jewelry as soon as I opened the box, and couldn't help checking it out right away. It's a pretty statement necklace in neutral colors that will go with everything. This is something I would have picked out for myself and spent a lot more than $5 on, so this was perfect for me! I love it! It has white jewels, a very pale pink color, and an iridescent jewel with some sparkly rhinestones too. I took a few pics of this (can you tell I love it?!?)

I also took a pic wearing it. I could make it longer or shorter too. I know I'll be wearing this a lot! I'm so happy I decided to try my luck with jewelry this time. And so happy I was sent this!

I was so happy with my whole ModCloth Stylish Surprise order. I've had pretty good luck with the shoes, so I continue to order them. It's a fun way to get some different shoes and not a big loss at $10 a pair if you don't like them. I'm so happy that both pairs of shoes I received are simple and practical for my lifestyle. I will definitely get a lot of use out of them. And I love the necklace too! This was the perfect order for me!!!

ModCloth Stylish Surprise August 2016

Rating: Like It!!!
Cost: $10 per item

ModCloth has surprise sales every once in a while and I have a hard time resisting a purchase. A few weeks ago they offered their Stylish Surprise sale and I was able to snag a couple pairs of shoes in my size. I haven't had much luck with the clothing or dresses, so I decided to skip them this time. I ordered 2 pairs of size 8.5 shoes and couldn't wait to see what I'd receive. I'm always hoping for a pair of amazing shoes that is a steal for $10, but my luck is never that good! They do have some gorgeous shoes on the ModCloth site though.

The shoes shipped quickly and arrived in a plain brown box, so I didn't take a picture. Here are the shoes I received in their boxes. Neither of these brands really made me excited, but I was still hopeful to see something I liked inside.

I'll start with the pair I liked! The Report Shoes Milez in Nude. I saw these for sale for $24.99, so $10 was a good deal for them. I mainly wear flats, so these are perfect for me. They'll go with everything and I'm sure I'll reach for these a lot. Plus they're a basic, timeless flat that I'll be able to wear for years.

The shoes have an adorable woven back detail that I love! I was very happy with these shoes. I'll definitely wear them and they fit great!!!

The Lulu Hun Amelia Mid Wedges in Burgundy are cute also! I couldn't find a price for the exact style I received, but similar styles retail for $55, so $10 was a great deal for these. I love the pin-up style and white bow and peep toe. Unfortunately, these do not fit me well and were too small (so small that I thought I was sent the incorrect size, but they were labeled right). So, these didn't work for me, but I'm still happy getting one pair that I like and will wear.

The wedge heel is a totally wearable height. I definitely would have worn these if they fit me.

I tried to get a picture of the true patent burgundy color, but the lighting was not ideal. I'd say they're a tad bit brighter than this picture.

Have you ordered from ModCloth Stylish Surprise? Do you love what you get? I'll probably keep trying the shoes once in awhile, because I love the surprise element of it and it forces me to try shoes I wouldn't normally order for myself. It's such a fun sale!!! I love seeing what everyone gets!

Modcloth Stylish Surprise Part 2

Rating: Like It!!!
Cost: $15 per item

I received my final Modcloth Stylish Surprise order. They are completely sold out! I ordered 2 more apparel items for $15 each, when they were still available. I was hoping for a coat, but when I saw the size of the box and the weight from shipment tracking, I knew it wasn't a coat. I also knew I was taking a chance ordering more and could end up with items that didn't fit or I didn't like. But it's so exciting opening a box when you have no idea what's inside, that I couldn't resist ordering more!

Here is what I received. The color looked promising, but from what I could see it looked like 2 fairly plain shirts. Not too exciting.

The first shirt was by Sunny Girl and is a long sleeved green shirt. It would be cute and comfy for lounging around on the weekends, but it's quite scratchy, because it's mainly acrylic. I'll still wear it, but will definitely need an under layer, so I'll be saving this for colder months.

The other shirt I received was by Pink Owl. It's a long sleeved v-neck shirt with a patterned pocket and back. This is really soft and cute! It fits a little tight (especially in the arms), but I can still wear it. It's pretty basic and not as exciting as some of the items I've seen others receive and was hoping for. But I'll wear it.

I'm not sure it was worth what I paid for these 2 items, even at $15 per item. I think I could have purchased them on clearance in a store for less, since they are just long sleeved t-shirts. But that's the chance you take with Modcloth Stylish Surprise. You never know what you'll get. And they're not horrible, so I'm not complaining.

But now I get to show you an exciting trade I received (that someone got as a Stylish Surprise). I was hoping for a coat in one of my Modcloth Stylish Surprise packages, but didn't receive one. So, when I had the opportunity to trade for this amazing yellow wool coat by Tulle, I jumped at it. And I love it!

Modcloth Stylish Surprise

Rating: Love It!!!!
Cost: $10-$20 per item

Modcloth announced their Stylish Surprise sale a few weeks ago, and I purchased immediately. This time the prices were a little different. Shoes were $10, so I ordered 2 (I can't resist the shoes and luckily they still had my size when I realized the sale had started). I always miss out on accessories and house stuff. Those always sell out the quickest. I was also able to snag an apparel item for $15 and a dress for $20. Luckily these ship out pretty quick, so the wait until the box arrives is not too bad.

I do love when the box finally arrives and I can rip into it to see what I got. I am always secretly hoping for a coat when I order the apparel (because I love the coat I received last year and wear it all the time). So here is a picture of what I got! It looked promising and the Seychelles shoe box (even though I hadn't seen what shoes were in it) made it worth the purchase already. They are one of my favorite shoe brands and I often buy the brand at full price. Plus I knew they would fit. The sizing is a bit off with some of the brands Modcloth carries, so I'm always worried the items I get won't fit in my normal size.

So, the first item I received, and my favorite item was the Seychelles Marvel Taupe leather shoes. I love the classic shape with the ankle straps and the not too high heel. These are perfectly my style and I will definitely get a lot of wear out of the neutral color. I knew it didn't matter what else I received, because I was happy I got these shoes!

The other shoes I received were Miss L-Fire Central Park Blue shoes. These made me smile when I opened the box! And they fit perfectly. And though many people have contacted me because they want me to trade these shoes, I just can't seem to get rid of them. The heel and platform bottom, may be out of my comfort zone. They may not be my style and I may not be able to pull these off, but I'm going to try my hardest! These are so irresistibly cute in a very odd way that I can't explain! I must say scalloped details are one of my favorites!

The Stylish Surprise apparel item I received was an a'reve lace cardigan with crochet detail in burgundy. This is very cute and fit nicely. It's a nice peplum cardigan and I love cardigans and peplums, so it was perfect for me, except for the sleeves. I knew I wouldn't wear it often, because it is too cold where I live and this looks like a fall color, so I probably wouldn't reach for it often. I ended up trading this, but it wasn't an easy item to trade, because I really did love it! But it is in a better home now in TX where it will get much more wear!

This is the back of the cardigan.

The dress I received was by Gilli. It's a black dress with a lace top. I love the flare style of the skirt. It is a little short, but I'll wear it. It's not too crazy and I was happy to see something wearable. Some of the dresses I've seen others receive are too fancy to wear, but mine won't be too difficult to find somewhere to wear it. It'll be perfect for date night or a dinner at a nice restaurant. And it makes me feel like a ballerina when I put it on!

This was a very successful Modcloth Stylish Surprise order. I would have kept and wore every item I received. And though I did trade one item, I think it was for the better. I actually traded for a beautiful yellow coat, that I should be receiving soon. If I love it, I'll post pictures! And because it was so successful, I ordered 2 more apparel items, that should arrive very soon. And I'll review them as soon as I get them. Now, I realize I may be pushing my luck ordering more, so I'm expecting at least one dud, and maybe 2. We'll see!

ModCloth Stylish Surprise March 2014

Rating: Like It!!!
Cost: $10 each for Apparel Stylish Surprise

I received my 2nd ModCloth Stylish Surprise order yesterday. I just couldn't resist ordering more, after looking at all the great stuff I was seeing other people receive. I was secretly hoping for a great coat or a wonderful dress (something from Plenty by Tracy Reese). Of course, I knew this would not be my luck, but I gladly gave ModCloth another $24 to try my luck at 2 more clothing items.

When I received my tracking it said my package weighed 4lbs, so I was hopeful a coat was in my future. I was dreading the fact that I may be receiving 2 very ugly sweaters. I had not seen ANY sweaters that I liked, that others received.

So, when my package arrived I was both nervous and excited to open it up and see what was inside. Here's a picture of the box.

And here is what it looked like when I opened up the box. I think I saw some other people receive the item on top and I was very excited!

Here are the 2  items I received. My first impression was they were both great fall colors, but I needed to check them out a little closer.

The first item was a Jack by BB Dakota Writer's Block Party Coat that originally retailed for $97.99 on the ModCloth website. It looks like the last sale price was $28.99, so for $10 I definitely got a great deal. It's more of a burgundy color, than red like the pictures portray below. It was the same adorable coat I had seen other's post and was envious of. I was more than thrilled to have this in my box and couldn't wait to see if it fit. And it was perfect, large enough to wear with sweaters during the winter, but still fitted enough to give you a cute hourglass shape. I won't lie, I squealed a little when I realized this fit and it was mine for only $10!!! I'm in love with this coat!!! The best part it matches the BAIT shoes I received in my last Stylish Surprise order. Score!

The final item looked like a nice sweater from the packaging. The color was a great fall color and the buttons on it looked nice, but I couldn't tell what it really looked like from the packaging. I opened it up...and...wow. It was very large, like a poncho/blanket. I thought maybe it would be comfy and cozy for the days I just want to curl up. I tried it on and it did nothing for me...absolutely nothing. It was very large and unflattering. Oh well. You can't win them all, right?!? I'm still thrilled with the coat I received and would have paid $24 for that alone, so it was not a total waste. I'm happy with my purchase...and if anyone thinks they can make the mustard yellow sweater by Urban Day work for them, let me know. The size says s/m, but I think it would fit any size.

I'm still obsessively looking at what others are receiving and becoming very envious of all the beautiful dresses I've seen, especially the Plenty by Tracy Reese ones. I love love love them! Maybe next time I'll be lucky enough to have one of them in my Stylish Surprise!!!

Did you get a ModCloth Stylish Surprise? I'd love to hear about it or see pictures!

ModCloth Stylish Surprise March 2014

Rating: Like It!!!
Cost: $10 each for Apparel Stylish Surprise or Shoe Stylish Surprise

I received my ModCloth Stylish Surprise order and I couldn't be more excited to see what was in this giant box. The box size was 24x16x8 in and it wasn't a cute ModCloth box like the other Stylish Surprises come in. It was just a plain brown box, but that was fine with me. I just wanted to know what was inside!

I had ordered 1 apparel item and 2 pairs of shoes. I was hoping for at least one item that fit well and I liked. And I had seen people post lots of spoilers of very cute things, so I was hopeful I wouldn't totally hate what was inside my box. I do have to mention that I have the worst luck with these grab bag type things. Like, I always get the worst, ugliest thing...always. So, I'm sure you want to hear about what was inside, but first a picture of the giant box.

And here is what I saw when I opened it up. I still could not see anything, so I quickly ripped away the packing material.

Here is what was inside.

The apparel Stylish Surprise was a long skirt by Bea & Dot by ModCloth. It is the Constellation Elation Skirt and retails for $84.99 (currently on sale for $24.99 on the ModCloth website). Unfortunately, this fit more like an x small than a small and I wasn't able to comfortably wear this. It had an interesting constellation pattern, and I think this would have been a fun piece to style. I took a picture of it shown with a plain ribbed tank, but I think you could pair this with many things. The best thing is there are trade forums for these Stylish Surprise items and I was able to trade it for a cute dress. I'm very happy about that!

The first pair of shoes I received was Dollhouse Trek Lace Up Combat Boots in chestnut that retail for $34 (This is an estimated price as I saw these for sale at various prices). I tried these on and they ran large and were too big for me. I'll be honest, these are not really my style, so I wasn't too sad these didn't fit correctly. I will try to trade these for something more my style. If anyone is interested in these size 9 boots, please let me know.

At this point I was a little disappointed that nothing had fit me correctly. I knew there was a chance that would happen, but I ordered the size I normally wear at all retailers, so I thought the items would fit. Ok, on to my last pair of shoes.

The final pair of shoes I received were BAIT (But Another Innocent Tale) Heda Heels in wine. These were cute! And when I tried them on, they fit perfectly. Yay! Finally this box wasn't a total loss. Now, I didn't expect to get anything worth a lot of money and honestly didn't think any of the stuff I received was too pricey (just basing it on quality). So, I was looking up the values for this blog post, and these BAIT shoes retail for $72 and are still available to purchase on the BAIT Footwear website. Yay! I only paid $10 for these and $34 for everything (including shipping). So, these shoes alone paid for my order and luckily fit me well. I probably won't wear these through the summer months, but they'll be perfect for fall!

And....since they still have Apparel Stylish Surprises left in my size (size small), I ordered 2 more. I'll do another review of what I get. What can I say...I'm addicted! I'm constantly checking Instagram and forums to see what other people are getting and I'm jealous of so many of the things I see. Don't get me wrong, there are definitely some duds, but for the most part I'm not seeing too many!

Did you order a Stylish Surprise? I'd love to hear what you got...
